Elementary Students Participate in Veterans Day Activities

The first graders at Longfellow Elementary School will commemorate Veterans Day 2018 through a classroom guest speaker on Tuesday, November 6, an activity on Wednesday, November 7, and an act of giving on Friday, November 9.

On November 6 at 10:30 a.m., all first grade students will hear from Navy Chief Nathan Booher as he discusses the importance of Veterans Day. Chief Booher will be dressed in his full naval uniform as he shares what his job entails and what it means to be in the Navy.

On November 7 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. the students will hold a classroom discussion about military service and what it means to be a veteran, chart their findings, and then craft handmade Veterans Day cards.  The students are preparing the cards to deliver them to veterans receiving care at the Fargo Veterans Administration Health Care System facility a few days later.

The first graders will depart from Longfellow Elementary at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9 and will walk nearly one mile to Veterans Administration Health Care System to deliver the handmade cards and miniature American Flags to veterans at the facility. It will take the students about 20 minutes to arrive at their destination. The activity is in honor of Veterans Day, November 11. The students are scheduled to leave the VA facility at approximately 11:00 a.m. to walk back to their school.
