Mark Donarski and 8-year-old Sloan Stoltz will be honored by F-M Ambulance, Fargo Fire Department, Fargo Police Department and the Red River Regional Dispatch Center for their efforts to save 35-year-old Kadie Stoltz’s life after a massive heart attack led to sudden cardiac arrest. They will be recognized at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at the Dakota Medical Foundation, 4141 28th Ave. S., Fargo.
On Nov. 25, Kadie wasn’t feeling well. She collapsed at home in front of her daughter Sloan and her 4-year-old twin boys. Sloan FaceTimed her aunt Jenna Lee in Grand Forks who told Sloan to get help at their neighbor Mark Donarski’s house. Lee’s husband called 911 while Donarski came to the Stoltz’s home and started CPR.
F-M Ambulance, FFD and FPD all arrived on the scene, and Kadie was rushed to the emergency department. She had suffered a massive heart attack. As a young, healthy and fit woman who had just ran her first half-marathon in October, the heart attack was a surprise for everyone. Kadie is home now and expected to make a full recovery.
“Situations such as this are a reminder of how important knowing CPR can be to help someone in need. Hands-only CPR is easy to learn, easy to do and can save a life,” said Kristi Engelstad, F-M Ambulance. “This is also a great reminder to talk to your children about emergencies and what to do if an emergency happens at home.”
