Inmate Faces Felony Charge

An inmate at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center is facing a Class C felony charge of aggravated assault, after a November 6 incident involving another inmate.

According to court documents, 24-year-old Justin Howard James Metcalf was already in prison on November 6, when he committed the crime by “striking and/or strangling the victim.” Court documents say Metcalf caused injuries to the victim’s nose and cheek bone, and impeded the air flow or blood flow to the brain or lungs.

Court documents also state that the incident was unprovoked. The injuries to the victim required surgery.
