At approximately 12:47 this morning, an officer from the Grand Forks Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2015 Dodge Caravan with no taillights on near the intersection of North 5th Streey and Gateway Drive. The vehicle refused to stop and eventually proceeded westbound on Gateway Dr. before turning southbound onto North 42nd Street.
The vehicle continued southbound on North 42nd Street, before turning into the Canad Inn parking lot off of South 42 Street, where the vehicle eventually came to a stop.
The driver of the Caravan, who was identified as 36-year-old Grand Forks resident, Carlos Rodriguez Jr., was eventually taken into custody. Speeds of the vehicle pursuit were approximately 25-40 mph.
Rodriguez Jr. was transported to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center. He is preliminary facing charges of fleeing in a motor vehicle (C felony), driving under suspension (A misdemeanor), possession of marijuana (B misdemeanor), and possession of marijuana paraphernalia (B misdemeanor). He was also cited for disregarding three traffic signals and failing to have taillights on.
