Airports Receive Federal Boost

The Senate Transportation Appropriations Committee has announced that the United States Department of Transportation has awarded more than $7 million in grants for North Dakota airports. Among the biggest grant recipients are the Hillsboro Municipal Airport Authority, which was awarded more than $1.5 million. The funds will be used to expand the apron, reconstruct an existing taxiway parallel to the runway and build a taxiway providing access to aircraft hangars. The City of Williston was awarded just over $1.1 million. The funds will be used to fund the fifth phase of construction of Williston’s new airport. The fifth phase consists of building a new apron, electrical vault building and firefighting and snow removal storage building. These funds are in addition to the $13.1 million Senators Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven announced last week. Other awardees include Devils Lake, Crosby, Gwinner, Mercer County, Oakes, Carrington, the State of North Dakota, Casselton, Cavalier, Cando, Ellendale and Linton.
