A Grand Forks woman faces a felony charge of child abuse, and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault-domestic violence.
According to charging documents filed in Grand Forks County District Court, on July 17 at approximately 9:28 a.m., Justine Gourneau committed the crimes. She allegedly committed the child abuse on a child under the age of six years old in Grand Forks County. On the charge of simple assault-domestic violence, Gourneau caused bodily injury to a family or household member. Documents say she caused lacerations to the victim’s arm and shoulder area.
The child abuse charge is a Class B Felony, while the simple assault-domestic violence charge is a Class B Misdemeanor.
She will return to court on August 24 for a preliminary hearing.
