Natural Gas Leak Reported in Grand Forks

Officials with the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks have confirmed to WZFG News that a natural gas line leak occurred Saturday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. in a construction site on campus.

According to UND spokesman David Dodds, the leak occurred in the area of 2700 University Avenue, and officials with Xcel Energy were able to get the leak under control within a short period of time. The University gave the 'all clear' notification at just before 3 p.m., which allowed the campus community to resume all normal activities.

The natural gas leak on Saturday comes on the heels of a gas leak on May 21, around the intersection of University Avenue and Princeton Street. The May gas leak was detected at 9 a.m., and the source located three hours later, with the all clear coming four-and-a-half hours after the original detection.

Officials with Xcel Energy had no comment on the situation when contacted by WZFG News on Saturday afternoon.
