(Moorhead, MN) -- A Moorhead man is set to spend 17 1/2 years in Federal prison for Attempted Sex Trafficking of a Child and Distribution of Materials Containing Child Pornography.

U.S. District Judge Peter Welte handed down the sentence for James Van Raden, while also issuing a lifetime period of supervised release. The 48-year-old was found guilty previously of, between December of 2019 and July 2020, attempting to solicit a perceived 10-year-old girl for sex. That child was actually an undercover officer, who continued a conversation with Van Raden for several months, with money even being exchanged at one point via a third party.

On February 8th, 2022, Van Raden pleaded guilty to knowingly Attempting Sex Trafficking of Children under the age of 14 and Distributing Materials Containing Child Pornography.
