SWAT involved in arrest of Hawley man following Tuesday incident

(Hawley, MN) — A 40-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after the Red River Valley SWAT team was called to the city to execute a search warrant.

According to Hawley Police Chief Joe Backlund, the Red River Valley SWAT Team was called at approximately 2 p.m. to the 700 block of 10th Street in the City of Hawley. Backlund says the SWAT team was used “due to the nature of the original incident.”

He says the original incident occurred Tuesday night in the City of Moorhead.

Captain Deric Swenson, Public Information Officer with the Moorhead Police Department, says no further information is being released in regards to the Tuesday incident. He says more information could come on Thursday.

For precautionary reasons, the Hawley School District and Lake Agassiz Educational Coop buildings were put into soft lockdown.

The suspect was later taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Jail in Moorhead.

The school district and Lake Agassiz Educational Coop buildings have since been released from lockdown.
