Moorhead Public Schools: Student in custody after posting image of weapon on social media

(Moorhead, MN) -- A Moorhead student is in custody after officials say they posted images of a CO2 style pellet gun on social media

Below is a statement sent by Moorhead High School officials.

"MHS Students and Families,

On Wednesday, December 13, Moorhead High School Career Academy administration was made aware of a photo of a weapon that was circulating on social media. Working closely with the School Resource Officer, the student who posted the photo was quickly identified and a threat assessment conducted. The student was removed from the school and immediately taken into custody by the Moorhead Police Department (MPD). No threats were made to staff or students.

The safety and well being of our students is the first priority of Moorhead Area Public Schools. All safety protocols were followed which led to a quick, safe and decisive resolution. We are grateful for the strong relationship with the MPD and their quick reaction to this incident."

WDAY Radio has reached out to Moorhead Area Public Schools, who are not commenting further at this time. A Moorhead Police Department spokesperson said the weapon was a CO2 style "pellet gun".
