Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner concerned about what many drivers aren't doing in winter weather

(Fargo, ND) -- Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner is offering an important reminder for drivers when traveling in blizzard conditions.

"We got a number of people out driving around today without their lights on. That's been an issue, especially if you are in those whiteout conditions and you come up behind someone and they don't have their lights on and you can't see their tail lights. That can cause rear-end situations or even head-on situations," said Jahner.

The sheriff says many drivers get used to relying on automatic headlight features on their vehicles, which don't operate the same during daylight hours, even when it's cloudy and when snow is blowing.

Jahner appeared on WDAY Mid Day.
