Fargo City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn calls proposed police department expansion "unconscionable"

(Fargo, ND) -- Fargo City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn is speaking out against a plan proposed by the police department to build a new larger police headquarters.

"To have this being proposed is just so unbelievably irresponsible. It's just symbolic of the leadership at this time. It's just stunning, and to be that tone deaf to be proposing this. It's unconscionable," said Piepkorn.

The other commissioners approved a city facilities master plan Monday, which Chief Dave Zibolski wants to include plans for a new department headquarters and training facility.

The current police headquarters is 4 years old.

Police Chief Dave Zibolski talked about their existing building during the commission meeting.

"We've already grown past this particular facility," said Zibolski.

Piepkorn supports making improvements to the existing building, including enhanced parking security for department staff, and upgrading windows to make them ballistic-resistant.

Piepkorn appeared on the Jay Thomas Show.
