ND Superintendent candidate Heitkamp: curriculum is "hurting education"

(Fargo, ND) -- One of the candidates for North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction is talking about what he thinks is hurting the state's students.

"So the curriculum I believe in North Dakota is what's hurting education right now. I don't believe it's the teachers. I don't believe it's the students. I think we've got really good teachers and really good students but the curriculum is hurting them," said Jason Heitkamp.

Heitkamp also said he doesn't believe that a former teacher is the best person for serving in the role of state superintendent.

He said the position requires someone with an understanding of matters related to finances and investments.
