Clay County Sheriff: rural law enforcement agencies facing stiff competition for hires

(Fargo, ND) -- Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting says rural law enforcement agencies are having a hard time keeping up with agencies in the suburbs when it comes to hiring.

"There is a lot of suburbs looking for cops too and those suburbs are offering everything under the sun as it pertains to hiring. We can't keep up. We can't keep up with the six figure salaries that they're offering. They're offering a lot of different benefits," said Empting.

Empting said law enforcement agencies in suburban areas are offering new hires very good health insurance packages and generous amounts of time off.

The sheriff made the comments while appearing on The Flag's "What's on Your Mind".
