MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) – The Moorhead High School speech team has reached a historic milestone, winning its 10th consecutive Minnesota State High School League Class AA State Championship.

The Spuds captured the team title Friday at Park Center High School with 70 points finishing nearly 30 points ahead of Lakeville North and Apple Valley which tied for second with 41 points.

Moorhead’s streak began in 2016, the first year the MSHSL began awarding team titles in speech. With this year’s victory, the Spuds remain the only program in Class AA history to have won the team championship every year it has been offered.

“It’s a perfect 10 for the Moorhead High School Speech team,” the MSHSL reported after the tournament.

The win was fueled by depth across the roster. Moorhead advanced 17 entries into championship final rounds, placing finalists in nearly every category and piling up enough points to pull away from the field.

Four students earned individual silver medals, finishing as state runners-up in their events:— Miriam Culloton, Humorous Interpretation— Jack Simon, Informative Speaking— Sami Jama, Serious Interpretation of Drama— Norah Carlson, Serious Interpretation of Prose

The 10th straight title further solidifies Moorhead’s reputation as one of Minnesota’s premier speech programs. School officials say the run reflects the dedication of student leaders, the stability of the coaching staff and strong support from the community.
