(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is commenting after the Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocked a ruling made by a lower court that granted access to an abortion for Kate Cox.

The lower court ruled in favor of Cox because of a fatal genetic condition carried by the fetus, which could potentially put Cox's health and future fertility at risk.  Cox left the state to seek an abortion as the Supreme Court blocked the lower court ruling.

“No one should be forced to fight in court and leave their home state just to receive the health care they need. As this case shows, abortion bans pose dangerous health and safety threats wherever they are enacted. Decisions about abortion care should be made between patients and their doctors, not politicians. We will continue to fight to ensure everyone has the freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions.”

Ellison is joining several other states condemning the Texas Supreme Court; including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Vermont, and the District of Columbia.
