(Washington, D.C.) -- The U.S. is investigating whether Israel misused bombs and missiles in airstrikes that killed civilians.

The claim is according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The State Department is also looking into if Israel used white phosphorus in Lebanon. The report says weapons investigators suspect a 2,000 pound bomb provided by the U.S. was used in an airstrike on a refugee camp that killed over 125 people. If it's determined Israel misused weapons from the U.S. then investigators could recommend stopping military aid or suggest restrictions.

However, White House officials have previously stated no investigation is ongoing at this time. At a January 4th press conference, John Kirby, the National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, said "I am not aware of any kind of formal assessment being done by the United States government to analyze the compliance with international law by — by our partner Israel [...]  I would just tell you that we have not seen anything that would — that would convince us that we need to take a different approach in terms of trying to help Israel defend itself."
