(Washington, DC)  --  Reports this morning indicate the U.S. has started air dropping humanitarian aid into Gaza.

The death toll in the region is in the tens of thousands since the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a series of surprise attacks inside Israel in October. Since then the humanitarian situation has become dire in the densely-populated Gaza Strip as the war rages on.

The effort to assist civilians became even more complicated after more than 100 Palestinians were killed earlier this week when Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd they say rushed an aid convoy.
