(Northwood, ND) -- A Northwood man has been identified after leaving his home and reportedly freezing to death Monday morning.

The Grand Forks Sheriff's Office tells WDAY Radio that a mail carrier was out on the job around 10:30 a.m. Monday when they found the body of a man in a ditch in the 200 block of 41st Street Northeast in rural Northwood.

Deputies say the man, identified as 85-year-old Gerald Thingelstad, walked away from his residence early in the morning and became disorientated in the area before succumbing to freezing temperatures.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, and there is not believed to be any danger to the public.
