House rejects bill to designate Winchester model 1876 as North Dakota's state firearm

(Fargo, ND) -- The House has rejected a Senate-passed proposal to designate the Winchester model 1876 as North Dakota's state firearm. Supporters noted the model was a favorite of Theodore Roosevelt.  But Rolette State Representative Jayme Davis said the gun was used to kill Buffalo and it almost wiped them out, hurting native Americans who relied on buffalo for food and many other things.  The Democrat said she's not opposed to guns in general but is against the particular model.
