ACLU files lawsuit against Hennepin County law enforcement over alleged use of facial recognition technology

(Hennepin County, ND) -- Bloomington Police and Hennepin County are being sued over facial recognition technology.

The lawsuit was filed by the ACLU on behalf of Kylese Perryman, who claims he was wrongly accused of committing a carjacking, armed robbery, and assault after Hennepin County's facial recognition software identified him as the suspect. Perryman had an alibi, but he still spent five days behind bars and waited months for the charges to be dropped, which they eventually were.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office denies that facial recognition technology was used in the case, according to a statement provided to KARE11.
