Senator Cramer's democrat challenger Christiansen expresses condolences following deadly highway crash involving Cramer's son

(Fargo, ND) -- The North Dakota democrat who is challenging Senator Kevin Cramer in the 2024 election is commenting on the deadly crash involving Cramer's son, Ian. 

Authorities say Ian Cramer was at the wheel of a stolen SUV Wednesday night, when he crashed the SUV head-on into a stopped Mercer County Sheriff's patrol vehicle. The patrol vehicle struck and killed 53-year-old veteran Deputy and Beaulah resident Paul Martin. Martin was standing behind the patrol vehicle when it was struck.    

Katrina Christiansen expressed her thoughts on the incident in a written statement released Thursday afternoon.

“This is a devastating loss for the Beulah community and our state,” said Christiansen. “Deputy Martin’s death is a reminder of the risks our law enforcement officers face every day to keep us safe. My thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

“I extend my thoughts to Senator Cramer and his family as they navigate this challenging time. I know the Beluah community will come together to support one another. Let us honor the memory of Deputy Martin by showing kindness and support to his family and to each other.”

Ian Cramer was arrested and is being is being held at the McLean County Jail in Washburn.
