(Lake of the Woods, MN) -- At least one person died after a large vehicle broke through the ice on Lake of the Woods.

The Lake of the Woods County Sheriff's Office says it happened Wednesday near a resort in the Northwest Angle. A group was riding in a large vehicle used to transport anglers on to the ice when it broke through.

A similar event happened in Beltrami County, when rescue crews got a pair of men out of the water after an ATV broke through the ice. The men were rescued within a half hour and looked at by first responders. The most recent ice breakthroughs are not the only ones to occur this fall and winter, as more than 50 were rescued from a floating ice sheet in mid December, and a plane broke through the ice on December 20th.
