East Grand Forks Mayor announces run for Minnesota State House

(East Grand Forks, Minn.) — Minnesota House member Deb Kiel has announced she is not planning to run for reelection to the State House this fall.

Steve Gander, an optometrist in East Grand Forks an Crookston, and the Mayor of the City of East Grand Forks, announced earlier this week that he will be seeking the Republican endorsement for District 1B.

“For over a decade, Representative Kiel dedicated herself to the cause of bringing our values and priorities to St. Paul. The work she has done and the progress she made for families, agriculture, fiscal accountability, education, and personal responsibility are worth preserving and building upon,” Gander said. “If elected, it will be my goal to do exactly that, according to the preferences of the people I will serve.”

Gander is in his eighth year as the Mayor of East Grand Forks. Prior to serving as Mayor, he served as an at-large member of the city council in East Grand Forks.
