(St. Paul, MN)  --  Governor Walz is supporting a bill from a Rochester lawmaker that will keep healthcare organizations from denying treatment to patients based on previous medical debt.

Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan indicated their support for the measure during an event on Friday.

The bill by state Senator Liz Boldon will also bar organizations from charging interest on medical debt, keep those debts from being reported to credit agencies and stop medical debts from being transferred to a spouse after a patient's death.

Boldon has been working with the Minnesota Attorney General's Office on the measure and plans to introduce it later in this year's legislative session.
