(St. Paul, MN) -- State wildfire officials are sounding the alarm for several Minnesota counties.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says a Red Flag Warning is in effect for several South-West counties; including Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, and Rock. A Red Flag Warning means there is a high probability of fires spreading quickly with predicted weather forecasts in the region; strong winds, low humidity, and incredibly dry conditions.

“When fire risk is this high it’s important to be careful with anything could spark a wildfire,” said Karen Harrison, DNR wildfire prevention specialist.
