Senator John Hoeven introduces Laken Riley Act; says "border security is national security"

(Fargo, ND) -- Senator John Hoeven today introduced the Laken Riley Act.

The bill would require ICE agents to arrest and deport illegal immigrants who commit crime.

"What happened to Laken is a tragedy and demonstrates again that this administration needs to secure the border. We are doing everything we can to force the administration to enforce the law (and) secure the border. Border security is national security," said Hoeven.

The bill, also co-sponsored by Kevin Cramer and several other senators, is named after 22-year-old Georgia co-ed Laken Riley, who was abducted and killed February 22nd while she was jogging on campus.

The suspect charged in the case is a Venezuelan who authorities say entered the United States illegally.
