(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota lawmakers are closer to sending a new election and voting rights bill to the governor.

The state Senate passed the election policy bill in a 35-32 vote yesterday. The bill would allow voters to sue to challenge political maps that suppress or dilute minority voting blocks. It would also toughen penalties for fake images and videos meant to influence voters.

The bill now has to go back to the House for review before it can move to the governor's desk.
