Fargo Park District Plans $40 Million Sports Facility

A new multi-purpose recreation and sports facility is moving closer to reality.  Fargo Parks Executive Director Joel Vettel tells WZFG News that Sanford Health has given a commitment to be involved in construction of a multi-purpose facility in South Fargo.  Vettel says the price tag will likely exceed $40 million, with the city funding approximately $20 million.  The city’s investment would come from financing, cash reserves, sponsorships, and sale of land at the Anderson Softball Complex on 45th Street in South Fargo.  Vettel says the land holding the 4 diamonds along 45th Street is being appraised currently, and while he does not know what value the land has, he hopes a “significant portion” of the city’s $20 million dollar investment could come from the sale.  The remaining four softball diamonds, and the baseball diamonds along 42nd Street would remain.  Vettel says taxes for city residents will not be raised to fund any part of the project.  The facility would contain indoor artificial turf, basketball and volleyball courts, pickleball courts, and ice.  Vettel says the vision is for a “one of a kind, game changing facility” similar to the Sanford Pentagon Complex in Sioux Falls, and says the city plans to partner with executives from that facility in the planning phase.  Two locations are currently being considered for the site, both in South Fargo.  Vettel hopes that an announcement can be made by the end of the year.  You can listen to the full interview, from the Need To Know Morning Show, by clicking here: https://www.am1100theflag.com/news/1344-fargo-parks-hopes-build-new-facility
