(Pierre, SD) -- South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is moving to give federally-contracted state employees a way to avoid the federal vaccine mandate.

Noem issued an executive order Wednesday allowing that class of employees to take religious or medical exemptions from the federal mandate. Medical exemptions will require a written statement from a doctor.

A form must be filled out with the state Bureau of Human Resources to take a religious exemption.
