(Washington, DC) -- The Supreme Court is upholding proxy voting in the U.S. House.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi initiated proxy voting at the start of the COVID pandemic. The rule allows members to cast votes through proxies from locations outside the House chamber. Justices denied a lawsuit from House Republican leaders who challenged the rule.
Republicans argued all members should be present in the House chamber to cast votes. Democrats and Republicans have both used proxy voting since the pandemic started.
