MicroSoft TechSpark Grants Seed Money to Start Jeremiah Program Technology Fund

WHAT: Rasmussen College is hosting a community barbecue in conjunction with the Jeremiah Program, a local nonprofit that helps transform families from poverty to prosperity by supporting low-income single mothers with children under five with affordable housing and childcare in Fargo – Moorhead.

The Lunch for a Cause on Friday, July 20, is a public event and open to all community members to attend. There will be a special check presentation at noon.

WHY: Its time to celebrate the establishment of a new Jeremiah Program fund called Technology Empowerment Initiative.

Can you imagine being a college student today without a personal computer or a personal computer with such outdated software that you can’t connect with your fellow students or submit homework?

A group of local professionals from the 2017-2018 Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber Leadership class developed the Technology Empowerment Initiative Fund, with an initial grant from Microsoft TechSpark to help keep local students on the path to successfully complete a college degree.

Microsoft TechSpark, a national civic program to foster greater economic opportunity and job creation in local communities across the country, invested the $10,000 seed money to establish the Technology Empowerment Initiative Fund to ensure resources were in place when unexpected technology issues arise for the single mothers attending college.

The fund is now available to also support Jeremiah Program’s young children to integrate technology and create advanced learning centers in the childhood development center on the Fargo – Moorhead campus.
