Sheyenne High School Senior Receives National Service Award

The National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA) has named Aryaman Sharma, a senior at Sheyenne High School, the winner of the 2020 Exemplary Student Service Award. The surprise announcement was made this afternoon at Sheyenne High School’s speech tournament.

Introduced in 2017, the Exemplary Student Service Award is given annually to a student who goes above and beyond to serve their school, community, city, region, or state using skills they honed through speech and debate. Service is one of the core tenets of the NSDA’s Code of Honor, which states, “A member exercises their talents to provide service to peers, community, and the activity. At all times, a member is prepared to work constructively to improve the lives of others.”

Sharma was nominated for the award by his Sheyenne High School speech and debate coaches.

The award winner is selected by a panel of the association’s alumni and past National Student of the Year recipients.

As the national award winner, he will receive a custom award, national recognition, and be interviewed for a profile in Rostrum magazine.
