Moorhead Standoff Ends Peacefully

More than nine hours following its start, a standoff in Moorhead, which involved, among others, the Moorhead Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Department, ended peacefully just before 6 p.m.

According to the Moorhead Police Department, 35-year-old Moorhead resident Blake Fitzgerald surrendered peacefully after multiple attempts by the department to get the 35-year-old to come out.

Among the techniques used were four flash bombs and the SWAT robot. When those proved unsuccessful, the final technique, which was successful, was when law enforcement deployed gas into the home.

Police say that communication was ‘on-and-off’ with Fitzgerald throughout the nine-hour ordeal, which affected traffic in and around the area, which was near Concordia College in Moorhead.

Fitzgerald was arrested on domestic assault related charges.

No one, including the victim, was injured in the incident.
