(Dilworth, MN) -- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is talking about the state's first confirmed case of the omicron variant. It turns out be the second confirmed case in the country.
"It's not surprising that it showed up. It is an area that we need to show caution and concern around. We are learning more everyday, but I do think it highlights one of the things that I pledged and with the help of the legislature in some of this, is making sure Minnesota had the best testing system in the country. The reason we found this first is because we do it better. California, us and Massachusetts have the best. What that allows us to do it will let us find it sooner. It will allow us to contact trace. We know where this person got it. He got it at an anime event in New York City, a convention and brought it back here," said Walz.
Walz went on to say nothing has changed in regard to the state's approach to Covid-19 and continues to assert "the way out of this" continues to be vaccinations and booster shots. The Governor also says he is proud the state of Minnesota is second in the nation when it comes to the number of people receiving booster shots. Walz made the comments while visiting the Dilworth Fire Station Thursday as part of his statewide tour aimed at drawing attention to projects he wants to provide funding for in his capital investment proposal for the 2022 legislative session.
