(East Grand Forks, MN) -- East Grand Forks Mayor Steve Gander is taking a proposal for a new sales tax off the table.

The city council approved the 30-year one-point-two-five percent sales tax earlier this month. Gander has vetoed that action and is instead proposing a one percent sales tax with a 20-year term.

The council will continue discussions on their next steps next week.
