Prairie Garden approved at Fargo City Commission meeting

(Fargo, ND) — A prairie garden in the City of Fargo was at center stage at Tuesday night’s Fargo City Commission meeting, after a neighbor filed a complaint with the City of Fargo on behalf of herself and her neighbors.

Marilyn Seitz, who filed the complaint with the City, said the “weed patch” has not been maintained, is supposed to be cut down in spring and is supposed to be sprayed. The latter of the two, Seitz said in documents obtained by WDAY Radio, have not been done.

At Tuesday’s Fargo City Commission meeting, the Commission voted 4-1 to grant the permit for the garden, with Dave Piepkorn casting the lone dissenting vote. The Commission also voted 4-1 to grant the license for the garden, with Piepkorn again casting the lone dissenting vote.

Piepkorn said Tuesday’s vote would “set a precedent” which could lead to other requests such as the garden discussed Tuesday.
