Moorhead high school students to transition to new high school

(Moorhead, Minn.) — As high school students return to classes in the new year in Moorhead, they’ll be headed to a new building.

Moorhead Area Public Schools is in the process of moving things over from the old building to the new building. The final event in the old high school gymnasium is a basketball game, which will be followed by a decommissioning ceremony.

When students come back from break, phase two will commence in the project, according to Moorhead Area Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Brandon Lunak.

“It involves tearing down the old facility and then putting up the remaining 30 percent of the structure,” he said. Lunak anticipates the high school to be in the 2026-2027 school year.

The new high school will bring in a lot of natural light.

“When we went through the high school task force, that (natural light) was one of the things that the staff wanted to see,” Lunak said.

The original high school building was built in 1967.

Lunak made the comments while appearing on The Flag’s Steve Hallstrom Show on Wednesday.
