(West Fargo, ND) -- The West Fargo Police Department says they are continuing to receive reports of scams that are impacting residents in the community.

One example of scams in the community are "Family Emergency Scams", in which a person receives a text or phone call of someone pretending to be a family relative. The scammer then tries to convince the receiver to act immediately because of an issue that needs to solved as quickly and discretely as possible.

Another example of scams include pretending to be some official, typically a law enforcement member or lawyer, that claims some payment needs to be made to avoid jail time or litigation. Again, the scammer presents a short timeline to address the issue, claiming a payment will typically resolve the problem presented in the scam.
