(Fargo, ND) -- North Dakota's republican elected officials, delegates, and party members are gathering at the Sanford Health Athletic Complex in Fargo this morning for the start of their two-day state convention.

"The state convention is always an exciting period of time. You get all the republicans around the state in one place and you get to endorse the candidates are going to be best to lead our party in the future. So it's a really exciting time and it's great to see a lot of friendly faces," said House Representative Brandon Prichard from Bismarck.

Prichard is in favor of abolishing property taxes in North Dakota.

He says the legislature has been lethargic on the issue.

He calls the the ballot initiative to eliminate property taxes "a great first step."
