(New York, NY)  --  Less than 24 hours after his win in the Iowa caucus, former President Trump is expected to attend today's opening of another defamation trial by New York writer E. Jean Carroll.

A Manhattan jury will determine how much Trump will have to pay E. Jean Carroll for defaming her in 2019 after she told New York Magazine that Trump had raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room decades earlier. He was convicted last year of sexually assaulting the former Elle Magazine advice columnist, and fined a total of $5 million for the assault and for calling her claim "a hoax and a lie."

The new defamation trial centers on comments he made on Truth Social, accusing Carroll of peddling lies in order to sell a new book.
