Cass County K9 officially named

(Cass County, ND) -- The Cass County Sheriffs Office is announcing the name of their newest K9 deputy.

Cass County Sheriff Jessie Jahner says the German Shepard will be named "Kota." The name was selected from more than 1,700 options posted to the Sheels Fargo Facebook page, and chosen from a list of the top eight names. 

"This brings a whole new law enforcement piece to our agency," said Sheriff Jahner," One of those pieces is narcotics detection. Having a narcotics detection K9 partner within our organization gives us a different dynamic in trying to locate individuals who are trafficking narcotics in our area."

Sheriff Jahner says after their previous K9 narcotic dog Ed passed away in 2021 and prior to Kota, Cass County requested assistance from nearby departments if a K9 was needed. This includes Fargo, West Fargo, and Clay County's K9 narcotics units.
