(St.Paul, MN) -- The Minnesota House is moving forward with a bill intended to prevent price gouging during "times of emergency."

The bill would allow the governor to declare an "abnormal market disruption" which would prevent sellers from setting exorbitant prices on essential goods and services. Violators could be financially penalized and face investigation by the Minnesota Attorney General's Office.

“We know there will be emergencies again in the future, and we want to make sure that Minnesotans can get the necessities that they need for those crises in that time,” said House Majority Leader Jamie Long.
