Polk County residents report being ripped-off in Facebook Taylor Swift concert ticket scam

(Fargo, ND) -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office has received several complaints of individuals being ripped off or targeted in a Facebook scam.

Investigators have verified that the Facebook account of Polk County resident Hailey Trautner has been hacked, and an unknown scammer has taken control of the account and has also taken control of Trautner's email account.

The scammer is offering Taylor Swift concert tickets for sale in Facebook Marketplace, and convincing victims to send money electronically using platforms such as Zelle or PayPal.

"Be skeptical, be leery. If it's too good to be true, it is. There's a lot of scams out there," said Polk County Sheriff's Investigator Justin Swang.

Swang says they're taking steps aimed at getting Facebook to close Trautner's account, and they're trying to get her email account closed as well. Polk County Investigator Justin Swang.

Swang says a couple of people have been duped out of a total of about $1,000 so far.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
