Minnesota sees increase in domestic violence-related deaths

(St. Paul, MN)  --  A statewide coalition says Minnesota has recorded the most domestic violence-related deaths in a decade.

Violence Free Minnesota has been tracking deaths from intimate partner violence for more than thirty years.

As of Monday, the coalition says there have been 34 victims of intimate partner violence in the state this year.

That's reportedly the second-most deaths the coalition has recorded since it started keeping track of the statistic in 1989.

An official with Violence Free Minnesota, who says it's unclear why there's a spike this year, adds there's been an increase in the severity of the cases being reported.
