(St. Paul, MN) -- It's going to take a lot more money to renovate the Minnesota Governor's Mansion than originally thought.

State officials in charge of the project say renovations could cost nearly $13 million dollars. That total is up significantly from initial estimates of around $7 million dollars.  In a letter to lawmakers, the Department of Administration says some areas of the residence are in worse condition than expected and bids to complete the work came in higher than anticipated.  This includes efforts to replace heating, air conditioning, ventilation, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Project members also said the residence needs additional security upgrades.

The Minnesota Office of the Governors says they would like feedback from the legislature before the Minnesota Department of Administration moves forward with the project.
