(Grand Forks, ND) -- A North Dakota panel has voted to suspend former state Senator Ray Holmberg's teaching license, as the one-time lawmaker faces federal sex tourism and child pornography charges.

Holmberg was charged with traveling to Prague with the intent of paying for sex with a minor. He used state funds to pay for at least three trips to the Czech Republic and other European cities. For now, Holmberg's teaching license is suspended, but if convicted, he will lose his license permanently. It may be a moot point, since Homberg retired from the Grand Forks public school district in 2002.

Holmberg worked as a teacher and consoler for for Grand Forks Public Schools between 1967 and 2002.
