(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota is one step closer to getting its official candidate for a final flag design.

The citizen submitted design features a white star on a navy blue background on its left side to represent the "Star of the North" on a simplified Minnesota shape, while on its right is three bands, one of a light blue, one white, and a deep green to represent the land, snow, and sky. The State Emblems and Redesign Commission is now looking at potential alterations to the final design, including a larger star, changing its color from white to yellow, or a wide variety of other changes.

The next meeting for the commission is scheduled for Tuesday. You can learn more about the state flag and seal selections by clicking here
