Bemidji man dies after falling through ice on Cass Lake

(Pike Bay, MN) -- An elderly man is dead after his ATV went through the ice on a northern Minnesota lake on Friday.  

Investigators say the 82-year-old from Bemidji was driving the ATV on Pike Bay near Cass Lake when it broke through the ice on Friday.  He was pulled from the water but died after being taken to a hospital.  A passenger on the ATV was also rescued from the lake and was treated by first responders.  

The Cass County Sheriff's Office says the ice in the area is unstable and unsafe for vehicle traffic.
