U.S. Supreme Court denies petition in MN big oil lawsuit

(Washington, DC)  --  The U.S. Supreme Court is denying a petition to move a climate change lawsuit filed by the state of Minnesota.

The American Petroleum Institute, ExxonMobil and Koch Industries sought to have the case moved from the state court system into federal court.  That request was denied by the Supreme Court on Monday.  The state sued in 2020, claiming the three groups had engaged in a decades-long campaign to deceive the public about the effects of climate change.

The lawsuit claims each group should pay Minnesota for the impact climate change has had on the state.
